About
Who is Greenbie?
Greenbie has been created by two women who are interested in Green issues. We are both busy working mothers living abroad. Angela Nudds is originally from the UK. Louise Sverud is Swedish. Both are lucky enough to be living and working in Lanzarote.
Where are we?
Why are we lucky to live in Lanzarote? Well, apart from the beautiful location, wonderful beaches with the Atlantic Ocean lapping at their shores and never more than 10 minutes away from any location, the sun shining all year round with temperatures rarely below 15 degrees; Lanzarote is also a Biosphere Reserve. A Biosphere Reserve is defined as a region governed by programmes of conservation and development which operate on both a social and environmental level. A Biosphere Reserve respects the environment and the social welfare of its locals and is culturally creative and sustainable. They are sites where the future is guaranteed because it is founded on a respect for the past. There are more than three hundred Biosphere Reserves across the world, and Lanzarote is one of them.
Being part of such an amazing place so close to nature instills the desire and need to be environmentally aware. Recycling becomes a daily routine, using and reusing water sparingly essential, turning off lights and using low energy light bulbs a must, not to mention using the wind as an energy source. However, things are still changing on the island with new initiatives such as oil recycling bins which have just been introduced and the ‘adios bolsas adios’ campaign.
Our Aim
Being Green is the recognition that we need to change our behaviour in order to reduce the amount of damage we are doing to the planet and the natural resources on which we depend. Greenbie aims to investigate ways in which we can change our behaviour through actions and promote them. We also aim to report on current environmental issues and take a look at what other people and countries are doing to be Green.
Our Ethos
Greenbie will never tell you what you have to do in a lecturing way; nor will we try to scare you into being green. We will present the facts for you in an informative way so you can make your own decisions. Greenbie aims to be fun not stuffy, interesting not boring, and most importantly green in an every day way.
We would love to be able to create the largest ever green network, so come on and join in!
Your Help
Greenbie is a global site and we would love to know what your country or region is doing to be green or what you are doing as an individual. We welcome comments from you!
